The Town

Aberystwyth is the principal holiday resort and administrative centre of the west coast of Wales. It is also home to the University of Wales Aberystwyth (with over 7,000 students) and the National Library.
The town nestles between 3 hills & 2 beaches, with castle ruins, a pier and a harbour. The seafront boasts tall Victorian & Edwardian buildings & the wide promenade protects the buildings from the ferocity of the Irish Sea. On a clear day you may see the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdon.

First Walk

Cliff Railway to Castle

Starting at the longest electric cliff railway in Britain, built at the end of the 19th century, you head immediately to the sweeping promenade with its tall Victorian and Edwardian buildings. Walk by the sea for a while, then inland, before returning once again to the sandy front. Next get a taste of historic streets, before circling an impressive church and onward to Aberystwyth castle – no longer complete, but still standing proud
(1.5 miles).

From the Gorsedd Stones of Aberystwyth’s Eisteddfod, past a tall memorial, you next walk beside the sea until passing in front of the first university building. Walk along fascinating, historical streets,
before arriving at the promenade, with magnificent views to the Bay of Cardigan, and Snowdon in the distance.
End your walk at the Royal Pier –
time for an ice cream!
(1.25 miles).
