The City

In Roman times Lincoln prospered. The Witham was deepened so ships could reach the town from the sea, and the Fossdyke was dug to link the Witham with the Trent. In the late 4th century, Angles from Germany conquered Lincolnshire, by which time the town was almost empty. In the late 9th century the town was taken over by Danes, and once again the town began to prosper.
Today it is loved by its vistors, best known for its minster, or cathedral, and steeped in history.

The waterside bars and restaurants are an excellent place to observe the many unusual marine species that can be found around the pool, or to sit and chill on a warm summer’s day (1 mile).

River Witham

It then continues on to revealing some of Lincoln’s industrial heritage before ending at a unique lock
