Bath Abbey

Curious About...
Bath Spa 1

Bath Spa is a glorious city, renowned for its hot spring baths. Yes, there are many select shops, high-class restaurants and eclectic bars, but to visit here is to visit England as it was over a century ago. Built on the picture-perfect River Avon there's a timeless Abbey cathedral, a Theatre Royal, and a Circus of spectacular buildings inspired by the Roman Colosseum. Once the centre of fashionable Georgian society Bath has outstanding parks, gorgeous gardens, and grand museums. A real must for anyone who wants to absorb England as it was!

    Curious About... Bath Spa 1

  • An exploration of Bath Spa's city centre with two self-guided heritage walks with an optional treasure hunt. Completing the treasure hunt keeps everyone actively engaged, and urges you to look up, down and every which-way - so you won't miss out on any of the city's treasures. There is also an Bath Spa 2.
    Explore, Discover, and Enjoy!
  • Most clues are chosen for their historical value, so you'll learn about the diverse culture, significant people and extraordinary events which have influenced Bath Spa in becoming what it is today.
  • This is an outdoor, unsupervised activity - so you can go at a pace which suits you, whilst keeping you healthy!
  • A Curious About walk is a fun and social activity for all the family and friends. Different people can take on different roles - follow the map, identify picture clues, read directions, etc - it's ideal for children from the age of 6, and if you can walk/wheelchair it, you're young enough!
  • The two walks have been designed so that the second one follows on from where the first one ends. Do both, or have a breather and do the second one another day! They both start and finish in the heart of the city - so buses, trains and car parks are easily available to get you there and back.
  • One booklet is suitable for up to 4 people, and is available to instantly download on purchase for printing at home, or we can print it for you and send it using 1st class Royal Mail.

Two walks are included in the booklet, the 2nd starts where the first finishes. (There is also an Bath Spa 2)

1. Bath Abbey to The Circus - 1.5 miles / 2.4 kms

Listen to a classical guitarist perhaps, or an opera singer, performing in front of the magnificent Bath Abbey, before navigating your way past ancient Roman Baths, and an 18th century ‘water hospital’. Walk along narrow streets and walkways crammed with history to a bustling square, then into beautiful gardens with tantalising views of Royal Crescent. Finally, arrive at The Circus, a truly unique example of outstanding Georgian architecture.

2. The Circus to Royal Crescent - 1 mile / 1.6 kms

From The Circus you head back into the city, and some interesting shops, before looping back past a medieval church and the site of a 16th century school. Next is the ‘most noble and elegant’ Assembly Rooms, once at the heart of fashionable Georgian society, before arriving back, briefly, at The Circus. Finally you make your way to Royal Crescent, one of the finest achievements of 18th century urban architecture.

What People are Saying!

We recently visited Bath and stumbled across the curious about walks on the Internet. I'm so glad I did as they were amazing!! My 2 girls aged 8 and 11 loved them as did my husband (who gets bored easily!). I love to sight see but find it's difficult to keep everyone interested but these walks did just that and we all thought they were brilliant. We are now going to download some more walks for our home town of London and see what we can discover and learn!!
