Self-guided walks for the Curious...

Explore Hull city centre with two self-guided heritage walks with a treasure hunt theme. Discover Hull's "hidden treasures" whilst having a fun day out with family and friends!
Kingston Upon Hull, or Hull for short, is a revelation for those that don't know it. UK City of Culture in 2017 it simply bursts with a variety of flavours! First there's the Old Town - twisting lanes, cobbled streets, impressive churches, museums and fascinating architecture. But on top of that comes the links with the sea - with William Wilberforce at the forefront of the abolition of slavery, it became one of Britain's foremost maritime cities. Today you can see it all, and relax afterwards in one of Hull's excellent collection of contemporary and enticing bars and eateries.

Curious About... Hull

  • An exploration of Hull's city centre with two self-guided heritage walks with an optional treasure hunt. Completing the treasure hunt keeps everyone actively engaged, and urges you to look up, down and every which-way - so you won't miss out on any of the city's treasures.
    Explore, Discover, and Enjoy!
  • Most clues are chosen for their historical value, so you'll learn about the diverse culture, significant people and extraordinary events which have influenced Hull in becoming what it is today.
  • This is an outdoor, unsupervised activity - so you can go at a pace which suits you, whilst keeping you healthy!
  • A Curious About walk is a fun and social activity for all the family and friends. Different people can take on different roles - follow the map, identify picture clues, read directions, etc - it's ideal for children from the age of 6, and if you can walk/wheelchair it, you're young enough!
  • The two walks have been designed so that the second one follows on from where the first one ends. Do both, or have a breather and do the second one another day! They both start and finish in the heart of the city - so buses, trains and car parks are easily available to get you there and back.

1. Hull Old Town - 1.5 miles / 2.4 kms
Explore the Old Town! From the area round Queen’s Gardens and a towering statue of William Wilberforce, this walk takes you alongside the River Hull for a while, before crossing the Museums Quarter, home to three incredible, free museums. Next you’ll snake your way around lanes such as Scale Lane and Land of Green Ginger, before curving your way carefully to the stunning Hull Minster, and its nearby bars and eateries.

"What a great idea - showcasing the many things which Hull has to offer - museums, parks, flowers, alleys, markets, statues, rivers, boats, shops, and so on. A really wonderful way to explore Hull and discover its secrets. Thanks!"

"Thank you for your prompt service and excellent booklet. My family and I did the' tour of Hull' yesterday, the occasion being my 70th birthday. It was fantastic and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. From the 2 year old, through a couple of teenagers to myself!! I will recommend to anyone and will 'do' some of your other tours. Thanks again"
